So, court-martial. Third day on the corp, everything seems fine, until I am shown up that basically someone in the corp believes I am a spy. Why? Because they also, coincidentally believe I am using a voice changer. I did a traceroute and clearly showed them that my connection sucks since it is all the way to the west coast of the U.S. (that means ~400ms) and occasionally, some people's voices sound like static, or robotic.

I had to give my full API yet once more, and again being forced to wait, and then pulled into the discussion room, where I was supposed to be asked two questions, of course the first one was "Why are you using a voice changer" and when I offered the traceroute proof I got "That doesn't mean anything, since I have a lot of experience with this and you are using a voice changer" to which I cannot reply. The second question was the basic one "Why did you start playing EVE Online?" something I answered during my application (that took place three days ago!)

So, I was put into waiting once more. I was thinking about resigning at the time, the corp hasn't offered anything to me so far, and it has been a complete loss on my side (as I didn't ask for any ISK, since I have enough) but to top that off, I was being court-martialed over paranoia caused by EVE Online stereotypes.

My patience didn't run out before the argument between the directors. The accusations dropped.

After the last few turbulent days with the corporation things seem settled. I am now a member that is officially welcome after being extensively (and annoyingly) investigated the attitude of people seems a bit more friendly.

On a side note, I supported my corporation during an operation yesterday where I basically had to scan down a couple of things meanwhile others worked on something else, my effort bore fruits and in turn a reward of 74,000,000 ISK directly from the CEO.

Today I have also sent a lengthy mail towards the corporation with a couple of suggestions about some projects that it is ready to tackle, I do not think my suggestions are really effective, but input from the new players is definitely welcome, and has been actually helpful sometimes in the past for the corporation as I have been told.

I actually always think that input from people that see something for the first time is important as they can actually have a better contrast of things when compared to those experienced seeing the same thing for a long time.

Pshh, I'm sure it's anything but boring.

Like people each character is different. Formulate a personality for your character and just have fun expressing it!

There are plenty of places (both ingame and on the forums) to go if you want to practice your RP or develop your character futher. Likewise plenty of RP'ers that would enjoy being part of it too. My characters (any of the Dusettes or their extended family) are always open to RP convos or messages from anyone. So long as I'm not super busy ingame then I love to just kick back and RP a little with anyone who approaches me.

Another idea is to make a blog. Write about Ragnar's ingame adventures, from his own perspective. I love doing that with Erica's diary (although tbh it's a loose mixture of IC/OOC for the sake of a good story).

Kellie leans down on Gully, her tiny ear right next to his mouth, checking his vitals.

Her sweet perfume instantly awakes the rugged space pirate. 'Whoa!', Gully thinks, his eyes still shut, 'A mini-Dusette! Her skin must be sooo silky... and her lips so soft... yeah, bring on the CPR!!!'.

But then he remembers that other Dusette, the dreamy one. 'Hitting on her little sister?! Nah, that's probably a bad idea... Snap out of it, Gully!'.

He stumbles out of the Dusettes' quarters, still feeling a bit shaky. He knew it was the right thing to do, but god, that arm! Who knows what crazy stuff it could be capable of...

He gets into his humble Derptron and sets the course to Huola. Pew pew is the best medicine. Approach, lock, shoot all the things. Yarrr!

Well, easily the toughest fight I ever had in EVE and I never even had to leave station.

Shelby and Kellie's portraits took about 2 -> 3 hours to update and went so suprisingly smoothly I just knew something would have to go badly. Then I started Erica and Dani's and well **** me.

First stage of the war went for around 6 hours as I struggled to make that dress work but just couldn't. With that falling through I was left with no backup idea so slept on it. Next day I had off from work so I settled in for what would become 20+ hours in front of the screen working on their portraits with nothing but bio breaks and one or two trips out in the car. At the end I was left utterly shattered and still unsatisfied, went to bed defeated and demoralized. Up again tonight and straight back into it. Around another 3 -> 4 hours and I finally got Erica to satisfaction with what was ironically just a tweaked version of her old pic

Dani's I'm still unsure about. I'm like 90% happy with it but it's still needing something (light wise). I'll frig around with it tomorrow as it's 2am and damn dayshift tomorrow.

Yeah for sure. For me pretty much the best times I had in eve, and best people I met, were since I joined Sky and subsequently Rolo.

It's nice having some chill time now though. I'd planned on follow y'all to HK, but since RL got hectic for many of you and you've moved on from there (and seeing as mine's getting a lil more manic also) I'm looking around for other options that are a bit more cruisey but still get me flying with people I know and are comfy around. Got to spend a night flying with the guys in Iso5 the other day, I'm thinking I'll likely apply there soon. They seem really laid back and I know quite a few of them from Rolo.

Only downside is I'd be the only Aussie though, afaik, other than Jack.

Totally. They get me all hot and bothered.

There is MUCH misconceived about the CODE, please let me clarify for you:

1. The CODE don't care about players, they just want to blow things up.
Permit holders are sometimes harassed by other players for their open support of the CODE. We are regularly called by our leadership to deploy to those far regions to support our Permit Holders at a cost many multiples of 10 million isk.

2. We are an extortion racket.
If this were true why do we offer 12 months of protection for 10 million isk. It's the confirmation you have read the CODE and sworn against bot-aspirant. The 10 million isk is a symbolic amount. The permit must be placed in your bio. Is the DMV an extortion racket because they charge you registration on your car... bad example.

3. We blow up innocent pods, how is this saving hi-sec?
Bot-aspirants are NOT to be tolerated. We believe if you give an inch, players become comfortable and from the auto-piloting, AFK activity built into the game you may become botlords. Much like kissing can lead to teenage pregancy. JAMES 315 taught us to be traditionalists and conservative while interpreting the CODE.

4. We are a rude bunch of disruptive role playing bads.
We are some of the most polite people in Eve. We expect the same from you. Bringing civility to New Eden is not easy. If you read the CODE you will see, being courteous is a trait expected from all in New Eden.

5. I can just ignore the CODE, I don't need a PERMIT.
We will kill you and blow up your stuff. Eventually, you will come to realize it's cheaper to support the cause for 10 million isk, which is less than insuring your ship. If you follow the CODE and lose your vessel, ask for a diplo and you may be reimbursed.

I don't understand the hate really for Mr Rancer.

Erica does pretty much what Jolly does, the only difference being there's no CONCORD, and many of my victims will fight back (but not all - I gank miners often, non-afk, perfectly alert ones too).

My character is an emotionally damaged psychopath who manages to hide most of her negative traits, but kills for pure blood lust and fun, some subconscious mission she's on since long ago when a pirate who shall remain unnamed broke her heart.

Mr Rancer doesn't portray his character to be anything near as diabolical. It's arguable that he may be deluded in his reasoning, but he sees himself as carrying out a noble and just job for another character (James) and for what he percieves (rightly OR wrongly) as something that will benefit all of New Eden.

Why is Erica ok and Jolly a ****?

Don't let it bother you too much, Random. Everyone can have a different opinion about CODE and what they do. We OOPEnauts aren't gonna agree on everything. Different folks in different countries and different cultures with different ideas, united in our enjoyment of lovingly rendered internet space ships and space babes and space cake and space coffee (well, except for ONE of us, heathen), with a side of prolific off-topic posting. Even Erica and I don't agree on CODE, and she's my EVE family! It'd be a shame if we let one person come in here and poop up the thread.

It's official. I've decided I could never live in Chicago. There are so many good things about this place. Excellent food. Fantastic night life. Endless options for entertainment. But it's loud. Which I could deal with if not for the real deal breaker...which is parking. **** parking in this city. The hassle is truly of epic proportions. It's easy to see why many just give up and pay money every single time for a cab or bus or the metro line. Having used all three of those options, I can say they are not for me. I love my car too much.

I think any of our opinions outside of LAGL shouldn't have anything to do with LAGL itself. I think that's part of the magic of this thread. I love seeing your posts, and I think it'd be wonderful if you stayed.

Like all good things, many are abused to the point CCP must step in and "nerf" them... LAGL should be nerfed. It's an exploit and OP, like the tracking enhancer, remote sensor booster, Gila drone characteristics etc.,. The like butan should mean something, carry some weight represent the players scale of "likability" not "lickability" as it is now.

I, hereby officially request CCP Mint Chip or some other grand social wizard to take control of this thread and bring meaning to the like butan.

the first step to looking psychotic is thus: are you german?

1. head tilt forward, eyes stare at the beholder (Kubrick Stare)
2. Choose your lightsource to have the harshest light/shadow contrasts. Your eyes need to be in the light. (Frank Miller aesthetics)
3. zoom as close on your face as possible, yet the face should not be in the center of the picture
4. Have the camera also at a rather odd angle to make the person appear more unstable.
5. for female avatars: reddish eyeshadow gives a feverish and evil look, unfortunately male avatars cannot use eyeshadow.

Day 9 of my social experiment and they still don't suspect I'm actually a nice person.

Wonder what kind of RL insults and depraved comments I'll be subjected to today.

Less than a week in CODE. and already both my main and this character have been subjected to a ton of direct RL attacks, while I've been nothing but polite and respectful, well .. other than repossessing illegal mining equipment in big explosions.

Interesting thing is not one of the haters has been someone I violenced.

It's actually quite fascinating. I'm finding it a real challenge to roleplay the character within the CODE. framework.

It's very hard to hold character at times though as haters seem to stick purely to RL attacks and angles.

I'd certainly recommend it to anyone who wants to try something new, fun and controversial in EVE. You'll learn quite a lot about other people and a bit about yourself as well. And while I'm sure one or two have been caught up in the bloodbath I'm very careful with the signals I send Bianca's mind-control implants to not harm the new pilots.

Anyway ... coffee sounds wonderful. I'mma grab another Dare (double espresso) and login to Anoikis. No local. No hate. Just the warm, comforting embrace of the silence and darkness of deep space.

I always think it's interesting how "complaints" like yours are made with the unspoken assumption that everything happens in a vacuum. Bianca has joined CODE. by her own choosing. She *chose* to put the corp ticker under her name, by admission because of CODE.'s own notoriety.

This means she's associated (by choice) with folks who have a less than stellar reputation of keeping it clean in Local. Let's look at post (also see loyalanon's posts under it) - screenshot - screenshot - screenshot. Bianca also happens to be linking minerbumping.com in her signature, a website on which just about every post week after week calls out a specific demographic of EVE players by character name and then re-publishes borderline offensive things they may have said, or expositions on why these players suck at playing EVE because they can't fit or tank their ship.

I agree that the people sending you offensive things in Local and Mail are poor losers. But it is also true that a few of your corp members have demonstrated that they're poor winners, too. Of course it's a game.. but when you destroy someone's ship are we able to take a step back and say, "hey, you lost your ship. It was a good fight. I hope you get it figured out", or do you start declaring how your corp or alliance "always wins" or how that player is fundamentally unwanted in the game (in the guise of RP, of course)?

If these kinds of things are "ok" to do for your corp or alliance, how is the act of cussing or yelling insults in Local suddenly *against* the rules of the game? If people team up with others who can't be gracious winners, can they really be surprised if they find people who are sore losers?

Frankly, I think people fall into graves they've dug themselves. You can express how surprised you are for receiving some of the correspondence you do, but it's not clear to me how much effort you've put in to expressing your distaste for behavior of that kind on *both* sides of the game, including your own corpmates in CODE.




A side note. People often get confused about my own allegiances. I have vehemently argued in favor of ganking in GD (quite consistently), and I also make posts that "follow the data" more than anything else. I believe that all aspects of the game should be explored, so please don't mistake my feedback here as some typical anti-gank rant. I assure you that it's not.

I'll also mention that Bianca is marked as "Good" standing in my own contacts list, though unfortunately CODE. is not (because Sibs is a miner).

If you actually read my posts you'll notice I'm not complaining - I was making a fascinated observation. It is a little suprising though the short amount of time it took to begin feeling the hate along with the fact it's not coming from my gank victims. Although of course RL style attacks are never a nice thing and I don't agree with anyone leveling them, from any corp, for any reason.

My point is simply that it's fascinating to watch (and be a part of first hand) how the vast majority of the EVE populace will generalize all members of a group and have a complete and utter inability to separate IC/OCC or ingame/RL. In fact it's obvious most players struggle to even grasp the concepts, let alone apply them. This applies to CODE as well who's framework is terrible from a RP perspective. It's why I decided to do something very different with Bianca. The traditional arguments don't work on her because I am actually roleplaying. Bianca doesn't understand what "afk" is or what a "bot-aspirant" is, those terms make no sense in her world. She is a terrorist or a criminal, plain and simple.

Of course it's very easy to understand why some gank-victims would take things personally (many people who lose a ship in any space, for any reason, do) but after being privy to the kinds of things these highsec ship losses inspire it's also becoming easy to see how the gankers can eventually take it personally and eventually begin to take an extra level of enjoyment from soliciting the hate.

You smack and insult folks in WHs you'll end up evicted. Likewise you do it in highsec you'll get ganked.
